Special to The T&D

Patricia P. "Patty" Carson, the mayor of North, is one of six people who have applied as candidates for Seat 2 of the South Carolina Public Service Commission.

Other candidates are James “Buddy” Atkins, Columbia; Florence P. Belser, Columbia; Bruce K. Cole, Columbia; Elliott F. Elam Jr., Lexington; and Brenton D. Jeffcoat, Lexington.

A public hearing regarding the qualifications of the candidates is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5.

"Because of my engineering discipline and background in government operations and finance, I was encouraged by fellow professionals to seek this opportunity," Carson said of her candidacy for Seat 2 on the PSC. "By combining my technical skills with business acumen in my capacity both as an engineer and now as mayor, my objective is the optimization of complex processes and systems, thus the retention of resources that generate value."

"My unique background and experience would bring an additional level of expertise to the PSC," she said.
