The 2019 Eartha Kitt Gala & Dinner was an overwhelming success! Guests were treated to a buffet dinner and were given the chance to participate in a silent auction. The auction contained donated items from the community as well as memorabilia from the estate of Eartha Kitt.
Kitt Shapiro flew in from Connecticut and was the guest of honor. Ms. Beryl Dakers of SC ETV was Mistress of Ceremonies. Mayor Patty Carson planned the event.
Senator Tim Scott made a video presentation speaking about his similar upbringing as Eartha’s, and stressed education as a vehicle for our young children. Mr. Al Jenkins, the representative from Sen. Scott’s office, made a presentation during the dinner.
The Columbia City ballet danced to Eartha Kitt songs and were given a standing ovation. Mr. William Starrett, director of the ballet, choreographed the two original dances. Tourists came from Columbia, Goose Creek, Spartanburg, Orangeburg and all across South Carolina. We also had visitors from Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. Everyone was given a ticket for a door prize which consisted of items from Eartha’s estate and a flower arrangement.
It was truly a diverse gathering and an evening to enjoy. Kitt thanked Mayor Carson for her continued efforts to keep Eartha Kitt's legacy alive. Proceeds from the event will go toward a museum for the town.
